Comfort food lovers rejoice! Brand new vegan cafe opens in Oxford next week and the food looks incredible.
Oxford is about to be placed firmly on the UK vegan map as it’s first ever vegan cafe is opening on 25th November. Introducing Happy Friday Kitchen.
If there is anyone out there who still thinks that vegans only eat salads then they must have been living on the moon for the last few years. Vegan food in people’s homes, supermarkets, cafes and restaurants has skyrocketed to new gastronomic levels and there really is nothing that cannot be made into an exciting vegan dish. Now it’s Oxford’s turn to enjoy unbelievable vegan food as the owners of Happy Friday Kitchen have really pushed the boat out in making sure their food is super exciting.
What’s on the menu?
It’s a Willy Wonka type moment: think of any sort of comfort food and it shall be actualised in this cafe. There’s a Chick’n’ & Mac n’ Cheese Burger; Buddha Bowls; Loaded Cheese Fries; Hot Wings (still vegan, don’t worry); Mac & Cheese; Pizzas; Chick’n’ tenders; and much more. We give special mention to the Big Kahuna Burger (from the movie Pulp Fiction) and Meat Loather’s pizza (BBQ Chick’n’ Stuffed Crust).
There’s also a whole array of sweet treats and cakes, including vegan Nutella Rolls, Cinnabuns, S’mores Pies, Lemon Meringue Pie, Lotus Rocky Road, White Chocolate Oreo Rocky road and Marshmallow Brownies. Who said vegan food is boring?
They even have a Big Kahuna Burger!
One of the main aims of the cafe is to make vegan food more accessible for meat eaters in the hope of opening some minds to the possibility of going vegan. And for vegans and meat eaters to be able to enjoy their favourite comfort foods together in one place
The owner is very excited about the new venture and believes there is a real need for this cafe in the Oxford area with local vegan and university meet-up groups happening all the time. Happy Friday Kitchen owner, Lola Dixon, said this:
“I’ve always wanted to open a cafe of some sort and going vegan made me fall in love with food all over again. I got excited about new foods and created dishes I used to eat before I went vegan, and I wanted to create those dishes for other people to enjoy too.”
Meals range from £8-12 and there are gluten free and kids meals available too. The address is 282 Cowley Road, OX4 1UR. They are open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday: 12:00 – 20:00, Friday and Saturday: 12:00 – 22:00.
