Tofu Bacon not only smells like bacon, but tastes like it too. In fact, it tastes better! There really is no need to go to the shops hunting the best vegan bacon when you can make it very simply and cheaply at home.
1 Block tofu
1 tbspSoy sauce
1 tbspNutritional yeast
1 tbspHot sauce or tomato paste (or half & half)
1 tspSmoked paprika
1 tspLiquid smoke
1/2 tspOnion powder
1 tbspMaple syrup
1Press the Tofu overnight to firm and release some of the liquid. The firmer the tofu, the better.
2Slice the Tofu into thin strips and lay the strips into a flat dish.
3Place the rest of the ingredients into a bowl and mix until all of it is combined into a lovely marinade.
4Pour the marinade on top of the Tofu and spread leaving some to coat the reverse side.
5Turn the tofu over and coat the reverse side. Then cover the dish with cling film or vegware, and place into the fridge for at least half an hour.
6When ready, fry the Tofu strips in some oil until they become crispy on the outside. Take in the beautiful smoky aromas.
7Add your finishedTofu Bacon to a sandwich of your choice, we recommend sourdough bread with lettuce & tomato and a squirt of tomato ketchup.
