‘But… don’t you miss bacon?’

A sixty-minute musical performance exploring vegan topics in today’s society will be available to watch on 4 and 5 March in The Other Palace Studio.

Challenging subjects such as the toxic masculinity in vegan and ‘real’ men, plant-based dating and even Greggs sausage rolls. It follows the story of a ‘Little sausage’ who follows a Yorkshire boy and how ‘his relationship with friends and family changes during his journey from cheese addict to animal activist.’

The lyrics are entirely from interviews with an Australian activist to a non-vegan who grew up on a farm.

The topic often arises whether it is still seen to be manly to eat meat. However, a study by the University of California made in 2021 showed that men eat more beef and chicken as they feel they have to follow a more ‘masculine’ diet.

Mr Rosenfeld, the leading psychologist on the study, said, ‘our findings suggest that shifting men’s perceptions of ideal gender roles away from traditional masculinity could lead to their reduced consumption of beef and chicken.’

Do you think there is still a problem with men eating meat to be masculine?
