Supermarket giant, Ocado, have just started selling savoury and sweet vegan croissants in the UK.
Croissants – pronounced “kwah-sonts” by the British – are a french breakfast delicacy that made their way over the Channel to our shores some decades ago, but it’s only now that they are starting to be veganized for all the plant eaters out there.
Croissants for brekkie and for lunch
All these GoVegan croissants are available from Ocado, come in packs of five and are priced between £4.49 and £4.99. You can buy them in three different flavours: wholewheat, sesame and chocolate. The aim of the savoury croissants is to make your favourite sandwiches out of them for breakfast or lunch. Already we are thinking slices of Violife Cheddar with sundried tomatoes, but your sandwich your choice – obvs!
All of the croissants are ready-to-eat, organic and free from palm oil. These pastries are also certified & labelled vegan, which is always worth shouting about in our opinion.
The company behind the plant-based pastry is Free From Italy, who supply allergen-free and vegan-friendly quality products to Ocado, Asda and Holland & Barrett.
Free From Italy told Vegan Food UK: “We launched GoVegan croissants when we realised there were no quality breakfast foods to be consumed on-the-go. Free From Italy sample products at all the key Vegan festivals and the response from customers confirmed our decision to launch the croissants”.
Thanks to FreeFrom Italy and those JusRoll guys, vegans in the UK can be enjoying pastries all day long now.
