When you just can’t find vegan bacon anywhere, don’t despair, we have a hack for you.
Sunday morning approaches, you want a bacon sandwich but nowhere sells frikkin vegan bacon! To rub salt into the wound, Quorn have a readily available ‘vegetarian’ bacon in supermarkets but it contains egg and all that cruel stuff that vegans don’t eat.
Boo hiss, down with Quorn? Not necessarily! Quorn also produce smoky ham and it’s vegan friendly! So some genius (Vegan Food UK member, Rosie Stone) somewhere had a go at frying said smoky ham and the result is one of the nicest vegan bacon products in the shops.
Step 1: put back the vegetarian bacon, it’s got egg in it!
Step 2: locate the Quorn Vegan Smoky Ham Slices
Step 3: a dribble of oil in a hot pan and fry those bad boys up
Step 4: dairy-free butter on two slices of white bread and your favourite sauce (tomato ketchup obviously)
Step 5: evenly disperse your transformed vegan bacon onto the two bits of bread
Step 6: place two more slices of buttered and ketchup’d bread ontop of the open sandwich. Give it a squeeze to save any bacon abandoning ship.
If this food hack wasn’t your cup of tea, then you should definitely have a go at making your own bacon out of tofu – it takes superiority over anything you can buy in a supermarket, trust us!
