Tesco go plastic free on produce

Tesco Trial Removal of Plastic Packaging on Fruit & Veg

As part of a month long trial, Britain’s largest retailer set to remove the plastic from their produce selection.

Watford and Swindon will be the first stores to run the trial of non-plastic packaging on 45 of its foods including onions, mushrooms, avocados and bananas.

Tesco’s long plan is to ban hard-to-recycle plastic by 2019 and make all their packaging recyclable by 2025.

“We hope this trial proves popular with customers. We’ll be keeping a close eye on the results, including any impact on food waste.”

Sarah Bradbury, Tesco’s Director of Quality
