What is the only time of year that you will see vegans up and down the country eating eggs until their heart’s content? Easter of course, although no animals are harmed in the process.
Celebrators of Easter, and all the egg-shaped chocolate munching that’s associated with it, will be pleased to hear that you can now get vegan cream eggs.
Many of us haven’t had the pleasure of being vegan all our lives, so we may remember what Cadbury’s Cream Eggs used to taste like. If you haven’t had one then think mega sweet chocolate egg with extremely sugary fondant filling – a kid’s dream!
So you can imagine our delight when we stepped into a vegan cafe in Warwickshire and found the vegan version of one of the best Easter treats on the market. Each packet of two chocolate eggs cost £3 (plus delivery) and contain 153 calories.

Our Easter egg verdict
These really are the real deal! OK, fair enough, it’s still not Cadbury’s chocolate, but the whole experience is still there, however you used to eat them. Personally we bite the top off and try and suck out as much of the filling as possible. The end result is that you are left with cream egg all over your hands and face – perfect!
In addition, we have to note that our tastebuds have refined a wee bit through age and we were thankful that even the fondant isn’t as sugary or grainy as the Cadbury’s ones from our childhood.
