Waitrose are Joining Forces With a Vegan Butcher and Increasing Their Vegan Food Range

Waitrose have just announced that they will be expanding their plant-based range of products considerably.

The UK supermarket retailer Waitrose has seen the light and realised that the future is plant-based; they will be increasing their veggie range with the introduction of 30 new meat-free dishes.

This new move will increase the store space dedicated to vegetarian products by 35% – that’s over a third of the supermarket.

So what’s in it for vegans?

Out of the 30 new dishes there will be 11 that will be 100% vegan, including more tofu products, vegan spreadable cheese and pulled ‘pork’.

Vegetarian buyer at Waitrose, Chloe Graves said: “This is our largest-ever meat-free range!” She continues to say that “vegetarian meals are one of our fastest growing categories.”

The really exciting bit

Waitrose have teamed together with The Vegetarian Butcher, a Dutch company, who make amazing vegan meats. The exciting news is that they have used their skills to develop a bunch of ready meals, including Lasagne, Thai Green Curry and Tikka Masala, which are apparently similar to the meat versions in store.

If you are lucky enough to try any of the new vegan range then we would love to hear what you thought of it in the comments below.

Why is so much attention placed on making vegan meat substitutes? I get the appeal to meat eaters looking for an easy switch, but for us vegans, the last thing I want is food that tastes like dead animals. :/ Just sayin’.
