Popular UK supermarket shares its plant-based boom in January.
ALDI produced some top-rated vegan items over January 2022. Consequently, it has seen a 500% rise in plant-based sales.
Last year, the supermarket saw half that figure with a 250% increase in sales from 2020 – 2021. However, ALDI doesn’t stand alone with their increased sales as other supermarkets also had a mass interest in the meat-free sections in veganuary.
Approximately 610,000 people took part in Veganuary 2022, urging supermarkets and eateries to produce more inclusive plant-based options.
But will ALDI continue with the expansive vegan range?
Julie Ashfield, Managing Director of Buying at Aldi, said, ‘Veganuary is getting bigger and bigger each year as the UK’s appetite and interest in plant-based food grows.’
‘In response to that demand, we’re continuing to expand our vegan offering, giving our shoppers plenty of choice and all at great value. But it’s also a trend that we’re witnessing year-round and, as more and more people adopt this diet, we expect these products to remain popular throughout the year.’
