New data from Uber Eats shows a colossal increase in vegan takeaway orders over the past year.

Uber eats released an article explaining its meal delivery trends between 2020-21. There was a staggering number of vegan interest for both grocery and restaurant orders, and, in total, their plant-based orders rose by 1250%.

It wasn’t only the plant-based orders that were on the up, as the company saw a 59% rise in the number of restaurants offering vegan options.

Other data has also shown increased interest in veganism, such as ALDI’s 500% rise in plant-based sales in January 2022. It is clear that more people consciously decide what is on their plate and spend their money on plant-based produce.

Matthew Price, Uber Eats general manager, UK and Ireland, said, ‘Given the trends we are currently seeing, I don’t think it will be too long until my ambition of options on every menu is a reality.’

‘For our part we will continue to support all restaurants that offer vegan options across the country and offer them a platform to grow and champion the best they have to offer. After all, no matter your favourite food, what the last few years of food innovation have shown is that plant-based can ― and should ― always be an option. ‘
