Data shows that veganism internet searches are no longer rising

Maxima Kitchen Equipment gathered internet data on searches for veganism, including vegan restaurants, recipes and veganuary. The results highlighted that since 2020, the search rates have significantly decreased.

With further analysis, it was found that the last big surge in people searching topics around veganism was in 2019-2020. Searches for veganuary rose 244% from January 2019 to January 2020. however, Veganuary searches in 2022 have been shown only to reach 44% of the peaked 2019-2020 rates.

The research was carried out by Maxima Kitchen Equipment, which has more than 40 years of experience in the supply and maintenance of professional kitchen equipment.

A spokesperson from Maxima Kitchen Equipment said, ‘It is very interesting to see how after the 2020 surge, online popularity and monthly searches regarding veganism started to decrease, and the reasons for this can be multiple.’

‘As the interest in veganism peaked, the world was distracted by another surge, that of Covid-19, which required everyone to adjust to a new lifestyle that was drastically different from what people were expecting at the end of 2019. The second could be the presence of more and more established vegans, who no longer needed to Google vegan restaurants and recipes. Also, this last group of people could be the same ones who in 2020 made the peak possible’
